This Fire Safety Awareness Training course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and awareness required to recognise fire hazards, prevent fires, and respond effectively in the event of a fire emergency in the workplace. The training supports employers and employees in meeting their legal responsibilities under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, which require employers to provide appropriate safety training and ensure employees understand emergency procedures, including fire safety.

The course begins with a clear overview of fire safety fundamentals and key definitions, ensuring learners understand how fires start, how they spread, and why effective prevention and response measures are essential.

Chapter 1 – Introduction to Fire Safety and Previous Incidents
This chapter introduces the principles of fire safety and reviews notable fire incidents to highlight the potential consequences of poor fire safety management and the importance of prevention.

Chapter 2 – Legislative Requirements
Learners will be introduced to the key legal requirements and responsibilities relating to fire safety in Ireland, including employer and employee duties under relevant safety legislation.

Chapter 3 – Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Prevention
This chapter explains how fires can occur in the workplace and outlines practical steps to identify hazards, reduce risks, and implement preventative measures through good housekeeping and risk assessment.

Chapter 4 – Fire Emergency Plans and Procedures
Learners will explore the importance of fire emergency planning, including evacuation procedures, escape routes, alarm systems, and the role of staff during a fire emergency.

Chapter 5 – Means of Fire Extinguishment
This section explains the different classes of fire and the types of fire extinguishers, including when and how they may be used safely.

Chapter 6 – Human Behaviour in Fire Situations and the Role of the Fire Marshal
The final chapter examines how people typically react during fire emergencies and explains the role, responsibilities, and duties of Fire Marshals, including monitoring fire safety measures and assisting with evacuation procedures.
At the end of the course, learners will have the opportunity to review all course chapters before completing a final assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the material.

Course Duration: 90 Minutes

Cost: €30

Upon successful completion of the final assessment, learners will receive a certificate of completion confirming that they have successfully completed Fire Safety Awareness Training including the Fire Marshal roles and responsibilities.
This training helps organisations meet their legal obligation to provide appropriate fire safety and emergency procedure training to employees, ensuring staff are prepared to prevent fires and respond safely should an emergency occur.
